While Loops
A while loop runs as long as a specified condition evaluates to true.

⚠️ 5 Fatal Traps & JavaScript Pitfalls
Trap #1: Infinite Loop Freezing Main Thread
Because JavaScript is single-threaded, an infinite while loop completely locks the event loop, freezing DOM rendering, clicks, and animations until the browser crashes the tab.
Trap #2: do...while Executing At Least Once
A do...while loop executes its body block before evaluating the condition, which can cause unexpected mutations even when the condition is initially false.
Trap #3: continue Skipping the Counter Increment
Placing a continue statement before counter++ immediately skips to the next iteration without incrementing, creating an inescapable loop.
Trap #4: Blocking Event Loop During Asynchronous Polling
Running a busy while loop waiting for external state blocks asynchronous I/O callbacks from ever running. Always introduce a delay with await new Promise(r => setTimeout(r, ms)).
Trap #5: Floating Point Increment Termination Failure
Writing while (x !== 1.0) x += 0.1 will never terminate due to binary floating-point rounding errors.
💬 Frequently Asked Questions
When should you choose a while loop over a for loop in JavaScript?
Use while loops when the number of iterations cannot be known in advance and depends on dynamic conditions (such as polling network sockets or reading data buffers).
How do you prevent while loops from locking the browser tab?
Add a maximum iteration counter guard or yield execution back to the browser event loop using requestAnimationFrame() or setTimeout().
What is the difference between break and continue?
break exits the loop immediately. continue skips the remainder of the current iteration and advances to the next cycle.
Can you use labeled statements with while loops in JavaScript?
Yes. You can label an outer loop (outerLoop: while (...)) and call break outerLoop; from an inner nested loop to break multiple levels.
Does while (true) cause memory leaks in Node.js?
A synchronous while (true) loop pegs the CPU at 100% and prevents the Garbage Collector and event loop from running, causing process degradation.
