CSS Minifier & Stylesheet Optimizer
Compress CSS stylesheets online. Strips comments, collapses redundant whitespace, shortens color hex codes, and optimizes zero units with zero CDN dependencies.
⚠️ 5 Fatal Traps in CSS Minification & Stylesheet Delivery
💥 1. Comment Stripping Corrupting SVG Data URIs & Content Strings
Naive regexes like //*[sS]*?*//g strip comments blindly across files, including inside encoded SVG Data URIs (e.g. url("data:image/svg+xml;utf8,.../*...*/")) or pseudo-element quotes (content: "/* note */"). This truncates inline SVG graphics and corrupts quotation marks on live pages.
⚖️ 2. Illegal Unitless Zeros in CSS 'calc()' Expressions
The W3C CSS Values and Units specification strictly mandates that unitless 0 is illegal in addition and subtraction within calc(), min(), and max() functions. Stripping 0px down to calc(100% - 0) renders the entire CSS declaration invalid, causing browsers to drop layouts completely.
🛡️ 3. CSS Variable Semicolon & Whitespace Truncation
Unlike traditional CSS properties, CSS Custom Properties (--variable: value;) treat all characters up to the semicolon as literal tokens. Stripping semicolons from terminal rules or stripping spaces inside multi-part fallback values (e.g. var(--primary, #3b82f6)) corrupts CSS custom property resolution across child components.
🔍 4. Vendor Pseudo-Class Grouping Invalidation
Combining vendor-prefixed pseudo-classes into a single grouped selector (e.g. ::-webkit-input-placeholder, ::-moz-placeholder { color: gray; }) is fatal. According to CSS parsing rules, if a browser does not recognize a single selector in a comma-separated list, the entire rule block is invalidated and discarded.
🚀 5. Subresource Integrity (SRI) Hash Desynchronization
Deploying minified stylesheets to CDNs without recalculating HTML integrity="sha384-..." attributes causes browsers to block stylesheets under Subresource Integrity security policies. Even a single minified byte discrepancy completely breaks site styling on production releases.
